Martin Collins USA is proud to be the Official Footing Supplier of Sonoma Horse Park.
Thursday afternoon at the Sonoma Horse Park finished with spectators gathering to watch the $7,500 Tack Warehouse Welcome Prix. Mackenzie Drazan and the beautiful 14-year-old mare Waliba VDL, trained by Teal Orlin set a strong pace in their first round. Only the fourth pair into the ring, they continued straight into their successful jump-off. This partnership of three years laid down the gauntlet, and set an unbeatable time to take home the blue.
Mackenzie explained their plan for the class, “This was our first round for Libi (Waliba VDL) as she is a really special horse it is nice to keep her fresh, but she’s always got a whole lot of energy when she comes out on the first day. She is a completely different horse on the second day and both are incredible rides. We were planning on doing a nice smooth jump off, but she gets tempting because she has just got so much energy and she is so powerful to ride. She just carries you across the ground so quickly that we were not really thinking about riding a fast stride it just happened that we were super quick across the ground. It just gets you that you lose yourself and end up going a little faster than maybe you would have wanted, but it was a lot of fun.” In talking about the future, “We are working towards qualifying for U25 (or Under 25) Finals, in Kentucky in the fall,” MacKenzie explained.
We can look forward to seeing this exuberant pair for the Giant Steps Charity Classic August 2-6th.

Every day after I hack him, we come out of the arena and Spanky comes over and gives him a kiss on the nose. Spanky was scared of horses but he waits at the gate for Davey; my two favorite animals have a special bond.”
We will see Davey and his ever-expanding fan club back at Sonoma Horse Park in July prior to heading to the USHJA International Hunter Derby Finals in Kentucky.
